WDIV used virtual sets and green screens for years to engage Detroit citizens. Seeking a modernized look with LED technology, the NBC affiliate found many LED displays outside their budget, requiring an unappealing mix of LED and LCD. ReveLux was brought in to help achieve their vision without compromise. Collaborating with WrightSet, Xibitz, and ZTransform, ReveLux implemented the set design using StoryGlass™ Ultra CrystalFlex with a 1.5mm pixel pitch. They created seven on-screen video walls for various on-air looks, including weather, sports, anchor, and stand-up positions. Custom panel cabinets were designed to match the curvature of the weather and stand-up walls. WrightSet’s unique design featured dual walls meeting at a 90° angle. ReveLux engineered a custom aluminum mounting system to transition from hard-set materials to visual display seamlessly. Using a special glue-on-board epoxy resin with Midnight Black nanocoating and a matte finish, the displays have limited reflection and hotspots, blending perfectly with the set aesthetic. ReveLux’s ability to engineer custom solutions and come in under budget enabled WDIV to achieve the high-quality, stunning display technology they desired.
